Taiwan Tankan Orange a natural hybrid of Ponkan Orange, renowned as a prominent citrus variety in Taiwan known as Tangor. The ripe fruit features a rich orange-yellow peel, firm texture, and soft pulp. The fruit's top and stem sections are rounded, and the peel is slightly thick. Commonly referred to as "Tong Gan" due to historical transportation in wooden barrels.
Tankan Orange should be kept in the refrigerator if you don't consume them all within 1-2 weeks. Which is nearly impossible because they are so delicious!
Taiwan Tankan Orange is known as "Jiao Gan" in the Guangdong and Fujian provinces of mainland China. In Taiwan, it was first introduced in the 54th year of the Qing Dynasty (1789) from Chaozhou and initially cultivated in Xinzhuang, Taipei, before being relocated to Yangmingshan (formerly known as Caoshan). The abundance of cultivation in Yangmingshan led to its alternative name, Caoshan Gan, and its ripening coincides with the lunar new year, earning it the nickname "Nian Gan."
