The most common and popular type of orange is the navel orange, which you are probably eating right now. It gets its name from the fact that the bottom of the stem has a circular hole that mimics the human navel. This bright sunkist navel orange is larger and has a thicker skin, making it easier to peel and eat. The beautiful yellow, sweet and low-acid orange flesh is divided into 10-12 segments by thin membranes, resulting in a balanced combination of sweet, tangy, and wonderfully fragrant citrus notes in the orange juice.

 

STORAGE

Oranges store well at room temperature for about 3 days. If you do not plan to eat them immediately, you should put the oranges in in the refrigerator where it can be stored for up to two weeks. However, long storage can cause the oranges to shrink and lose flavour.

 

FUN FACTS & TIPS

The juice of navel oranges contains limonin, an antioxidant that causes the liquid to turn bitter or sour after about 30 minutes of contact with air. Therefore, it is best to consume it as soon as possible.
