Arumanis Mango

Arumanis mangoes have process a bright green skin with large, light-yellow flecks. Even when mature, the fruit retains its green hue and is ready to eat straight off the tree.  The skin is thick and robust, covering the delicate flesh inside, which has a deep, sweet, delightful aroma and is typically fiberless. 'Harum' means "fragrant" and 'manis' means "sweet" in Indonesian. These mangoes are said to live up to their reputation, making them a sought-after fruit throughout their brief season.

STORAGE

Unripe mangoes should not be refrigerated since the cold stops the ripening process. When the mango is fully ripe, consume it as soon as possible. Alternatively you can place mangoes in a paper bag with another ripe fruit, such as an apple or banana, to speed up the ripening process.

FUN FACTS & TIPS

Some may be perplexed as to why Arumanis Mangoes are so pricey. The reason for this is that they only grow flowers and fruits in good climate locations with a suitable ecological system, which can only be found in Perlis. They will also not yield fruit unless there is a three-month stretch of very hot and dry weather during the day and cold and windy weather at night. Furthermore, for optimal fruit development, the quantity of water in the soil must be matched with an appropriate pH, and the fruits must be wrapped. As a result, they are only farmed by farmers who have years of experience growing them.
