Langsat is a tiny tropical fruit that is commonly found in Malaysia, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asian countries. It has a sweet and tangy flavour that is comparable to grapes, making it a popular treat among locals. The fruit is about the size of a golf ball and has a thin, yellowish-brown skin that peels away easily to reveal the luscious, transparent flesh inside. Longkong fruits typically contain one to three bitter-tasting seeds that should be removed before consumption.
Storage of langsat is best done at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and refrigeration should be avoided. If storing for a longer period, it is recommended to use a breathable container. Longkong is best consumed within a few days of purchase, but it can also be frozen to extend its shelf life.
Langsat is often eaten fresh, with the seeds removed, and the flesh simply scooped off the peel for a convenient and tasty snack. The pulp of Longkong can be used to make smoothies, shakes, and other beverages, adding a unique tropical flavour. Their flesh can be added to fruit or green salads for a burst of sweetness and tanginess. The pulp can also be combined with egg custard and baked for a delicious dessert. Or they can be pressed through a sieve, mixed with juice, and topped with whipped cream to create a flavourful sauce.
